Since the start of this web page, my greeting has stated thanks for visiting if you like Star Trek. I just realized, I had nothing, other than some links to other sites, about Star Trek in my own site! This is to correct that omission. Now, mind you, I enjoy watching most of the ST series, but I am a product of TOS (for this who don't know, TOS means The Original Series). I was (and still am) an avid sci-fi fan. Used to watch all those serial sci-fi series on Saturday morning TV. Caught all those, now classic, Japanese horror flicks. Never got caught up in the TV Batman craze because it was opposite Lost in Space. I was just entering Junior High when TOS debuted. It had been advertised all summer and I had circled the date on the calendar so I won't miss it. I even negotiated staying up past 9:00PM to be able to watch it. The premiere episode, "The Man Trap", came and I couldn't get enough of it. I was hooked.
I wrote the stars of TOS for pictures. I participated in the "Save Star Trek" write in campaign at the end of the second season. I spent too much money at Cyrano Jones Trading Post which later became Lincoln Enterprises. I was a member of the Star Trek Fan Club run by a girl named Debbie out of Texas. Got to correspond with a couple of the members regularly. Even met one of them in NYC at the Second ST Convention. I went to the first two Conventions in NYC and the first one in Boston. After that, they became too commercial for me. I thought the third season really sucked (oh, there were some very good story ideas in the third season but come on!, "Spock's Brain"!). My favorite episodes are (in no particular order) "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "Trouble with Tribbles", "Plato's Stepchildren" (yes, I know it's third season but I liked the concept of absolute power corrupting absolutely), "Amok Time", "The Conscience of the King", "Journey to Babel", "Space Seed"
I have some photos from those days. As soon as I get a chance to dig them up, I will scan them for the page. We went to Las Vegas in October 1999 and visited the Star Trek Experience. It was OK. Don't pay just for the museum. It isn't worth it. Make sure to call ahead. The first time we went, the Experience wasn't open, just the museum and we had to come back. The history of the future is good. The museum has lots of movie stuff but not much in the way of series things especially TOS. I still don't understand why the Klingons want to kill Picard if they are our friends in TNG. I loved the transporter effect and the flight through Las Vegas was great! They had lots of bears like the one pictures above. I bought a Spock bear. Here are some pictures from outside the Experience. |
